For 71-year-old Zakayo Matiti Mugofu, life in Nairobi has lost its meaning. After spending nearly five decades in the busy city, his heart now longs for one thing — to go back home.
Zakayo first left Madzuu Village in Vihiga County in 1978 when he was only 24 years old. He went to the city hoping to build a better life. Time passed, and Nairobi became his new world. But today, he is tired of the noise and loneliness. All he wants is to return to his roots.
Sadly, his memory has faded. The few things he recalls are his father’s name, Luka Matete, his wife Rebecca Muhoja, and a daughter they had before life separated them. The rest of his past is a blur.
Zakayo is now hoping that someone, maybe a family member or a villager who still remembers him, will help him find his way back.
On social media, Kenyans reacted with sympathy, wishing him well and hoping his story reaches the right people who can reunite him with his family.
