"Their Offense Attracts Death Punishment" Blow to Six in Ojwang Case After Denying Murder Charges

On Tuesday, six people linked to the murder of blogger Albert Ojwang were taken to the Kibra Law Courts. Among those presented was the Central Police Station OCS, Mr. Talaam, together with five other officers who were on duty during the incident.

The six told the court that they are not guilty of killing Ojwang.

"We are not the ones who killed him inside the cell," one of the officers said while responding to the charges read to them in court.

They also asked the magistrate to release them on bail as they wait for the trial to begin.

"We are innocent, and it would be fair if we are allowed to go home on bond as the case continues," one of the accused pleaded.

However, the prosecution, led by State Counsel Owiti, strongly opposed their request. He told the court that the charges against the six officers are serious and under the law, murder attracts the death penalty.

"The offense these officers are facing is punishable by death. For this reason, they should not be released on bond," said Counsel Owiti.

The prosecution further warned that if the accused are released, they might interfere with the ongoing investigations.

"There is fear that if released, they could tamper with the evidence, and this will weaken the case. Justice for Ojwang may never be served," he added.
