Drama Hits Ojwang’s Family as Uncle Claims Blogger’s Funeral Cash Was Swindled

The family of slain blogger Albert Ojwang has found itself in the middle of a brewing storm, just weeks after the young man’s tragic death under controversial circumstances while in police custody.

Ojwang’s uncle has come out with explosive claims that over KSh 500,000 raised by well-wishers to support the grieving family has allegedly been mismanaged — and that the funds never fully reached the family.

Speaking emotionally, the uncle accused unnamed individuals of hijacking the fundraising efforts that were being carried out online. According to him, the donations — mostly from Kenyans touched by Ojwang’s story — were not handled transparently, with a large chunk of the money allegedly being pocketed by those who were supposed to support the family.

“People donated generously to help us bury our son in dignity. But the money vanished — we only received a small portion. The rest? We don't know what happened to it,” he said.

The shocking revelation has sparked outrage online, with many demanding accountability and transparency in how the funds were collected and spent. The family is now calling for an immediate audit of the mobile fundraising account used, and has urged Kenyans to pause any further contributions until clarity is provided.

This comes even as the public continues to mourn Ojwang, a young content creator whose life was cut short on June 8, allegedly after torture while in police custody. A post-mortem later revealed he died from blunt force trauma and neck compression, contradicting earlier police reports claiming he harmed himself.

With emotions still raw and trust in fundraisers now in question, Kenyans are calling for better oversight in such campaigns — especially when done in the name of grieving families.

“It’s heartbreaking. We gave out of love, but that love was misused. Justice should be served, not just for Ojwang, but for his family too,” one online user wrote.

As investigations continue into both Ojwang’s death and now the alleged fund misuse, one thing is clear — the fight for justice is far from over.
