Shock as Moi University Student Mysteriously Dies After Night With Boyfriend

Residents of Nyamira County woke up to shock and disbelief after a Moi University student was found dead on Monday morning following a night with her boyfriend at a local lodging.

According to police reports, the 22-year-old woman, a third-year student at Moi University, had travelled from Eldoret to visit her boyfriend in Nyamira town over the weekend.

The man, believed to be from Kisii County, reportedly booked a room at a local lodging where the two spent the night together.

Witnesses said the couple checked in on Sunday evening, shared dinner, and were later seen enjoying drinks before retiring to their room.

However, tragedy struck the next morning when the boyfriend rushed to the reception screaming for help, claiming his girlfriend had collapsed and was unresponsive.

Hotel attendants and guests rushed to the room, only to find the young woman lying motionless on the bed. Police were immediately alerted and arrived at the scene moments later.

Nyamira County Police Commander confirmed the incident, saying the body was taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

“We have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of death. The boyfriend has been detained to assist in the investigation,” he said.

Preliminary findings suggest the woman may have died from exhaustion or a sudden health complication, though police are not ruling out foul play. Officers also recovered alcoholic drinks and unidentified drugs from the room.

Friends and classmates have expressed deep sorrow, describing the deceased as cheerful and ambitious.

“She was full of life; it’s heartbreaking to lose her this way,” one student said.

The incident has sparked heated debate on social media, with many Kenyans calling for responsible behaviour among university students and caution when visiting partners away from school.

Police say investigations are still ongoing as they await autopsy results to determine what truly happened that fateful night in Nyamira.
