Ruto's Government Declares Ksh10 Million Fine for All Supermarkets Found Selling Substandard Products

His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, Kenya’s President, has sent a strong warning to retailers across the country regarding the sale of inferior goods.

Through the Kenya Competition Authority (KCA) on October 27, 2025, the government announced that any retailer found selling substandard merchandise to consumers will face a Ksh10 million fine.

Supermarkets and other retailers are also required to replace any products that fail to meet market standards, ensuring that consumers receive safe and quality items.

The government has urged all Kenyans to report any substandard goods they encounter in supermarkets or retail outlets directly to the Competition Authority.

This decisive action aims to protect consumers, promote fair trade, and hold businesses accountable for the quality of products sold within Kenya.
