"I Knew He Was Weak": Ruto Painfully Reveals His Final Conversation With Raila Before His Death

President William Ruto has opened up about his last emotional conversation with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, revealing heartbreaking details about Raila’s deteriorating health before his death.

Speaking during the funeral service held at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in Bondo, Siaya County, Ruto said their final call was filled with concern and sadness as Raila admitted that he was feeling unusually weak due to strong medication.

According to the President, Raila confided that he had sought treatment in several countries, including Dubai and the United States, before finally settling in India, where he later passed away.

Ruto recalled that during one of their final conversations, Raila mentioned that doctors had advised him to take time off in Malindi to rest and regain strength.

The President said he encouraged Raila to focus on recovery and assured him of the government’s full support.

Later, when Raila returned home, Ruto visited him in Karen alongside his family. He recounted that Raila appeared frail but remained optimistic.

Ruto said he personally urged him to pursue advanced medical care and promised that the government would cater for all expenses.

The President emotionally described the morning of Raila’s death, revealing that he received a call from Oburu Odinga informing him that Raila’s condition had worsened.

Moments later, he got the heartbreaking confirmation that Raila had passed on.

Ruto praised Raila’s daughter, Winnie Odinga, for standing by her father throughout his illness, describing her as “a true pillar of strength.”

He also confirmed that the government honoured Raila’s wish to be buried within 72 hours, in line with his personal request.

In a moving tribute, Ruto referred to Raila as “The People’s President”, saying his name and legacy will remain forever etched in Kenya’s political history.
