Former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua has passed away, leaving friends, family, and fans heartbroken.
The news of his death came late Tuesday night, though the exact cause has not been officially confirmed. Kimani’s passing highlights the ongoing struggle many face with mental health challenges.
Kimani rose to fame at just 19 years old, quickly becoming one of Kenya’s most promising media talents.
He worked with Nation Media Group before joining Royal Media Services, where he reported for Citizen TV, Inooro FM, and Hot 96.
Known for his intelligence, charisma, and storytelling skills, Kimani co-hosted popular shows like The Trend alongside Larry Madowo, earning respect across the country.
However, in 2020, Kimani’s life took a difficult turn when he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The condition affected his career and personal life, leading to hospitalizations and periods of homelessness.
In 2023, he shared an emotional video on Instagram, admitting he was struggling and asking for help.
His family, especially his younger sister Wanjiku, remembered him as a once-devout Seventh-day Adventist, who used to lead morning prayers and share close moments with his siblings.
