New details have come out about what happened to the passengers Catholic Priest Mathew Eya was carrying in his car on the day he was attacked.
According to reports, the priest was driving home when armed assailants hijacked his vehicle and shot him dead on the road. People who witnessed the shocking incident have now shared what allegedly happened afterward.
One eyewitness said that after the priest was killed, the attackers turned their attention to the passengers who were inside the car with him.
The witness explained that the passengers were abducted by the assailants, who forced them into another vehicle and drove them away to an unknown place.
“They took them quickly and no one knew where they were going. Up to now, their whereabouts remain unknown,” the eyewitness said.
The same source added that the armed men who carried out the attack were only two, and they were riding on a motorcycle. After shooting the priest and seizing the passengers, the men escaped on their motorcycle before the police could arrive.
“They did not waste any time. They finished their mission and left very fast. The police tried to chase them but they had already disappeared,” the eyewitness claimed.
In a statement released by police officers, it was confirmed that investigations into the killing have already started. However, the officers said that the motive behind the brutal murder is not yet known.
“At this point, we cannot confirm why the priest was targeted. Investigations are ongoing, and we hope to uncover the truth soon,” a police spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, people who personally knew the late priest have expressed deep pain and sorrow. Some claimed that the attack appeared to have been carefully planned by his enemies.
“This was not an ordinary killing. We believe it was well organized, and that is why we are in great sorrow as a community,” a close friend of the priest said.
Church leaders also reacted with sadness after receiving news of the tragedy. They described Father Eya as a humble servant of God who was deeply loved and respected by many people.
“He was a man of peace and prayer. His death is a huge loss to the Church and to the faithful who looked up to him,” one church official said.
