Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has denied reports that he is dropping out of the 2027 presidential contest.

In a video shared on his social media pages on Friday, September 19, Kalonzo accused bloggers linked to the Kenya Kwanza administration of spreading false information. He assured his supporters that his name will be on the ballot in the next General Election.

“Where did these stories come from? My enemies are restless because they know I will be on the 2027 ballot, God willing,” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader, who is also part of the United Opposition, has faced increasing scrutiny, with some claims suggesting he could defect to President William Ruto’s side ahead of 2027.

Ruto’s allies, including Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, have openly urged Kalonzo to work with the government.

They argued that his continued partnership with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other opposition leaders is part of a divisive political strategy.

“To my brother Kalonzo, don’t let others decide who your friends or enemies should be,” Wetang’ula said on June 9.

Mutua added on June 17, “Even if Kalonzo is humble, he should face Gachagua and tell him the truth, because the same disrespect Gachagua shows us now, he once used to claim we didn’t deliver enough votes.”

But Kalonzo has stood firm, rejecting calls to cross over to the government side.

“I will never join this rogue regime. I refuse to engage in any talks with leaders who have blood on their hands,” he declared.

This was not the first time Kalonzo had to dismiss rumors. On August 7, he rubbished a viral social media post that claimed President Ruto had appointed him to lead a peace mission in Côte d'Ivoire under the African Union. He labelled the post fake and misleading.

Meanwhile, reports of divisions within the United Opposition continue to emerge. Critics say the coalition has shifted its focus from addressing national issues to internal power-sharing battles as it moves to formalize its alliance.
