Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya has said he is not worried about corruption accusations being raised against him.

Speaking in Kakamega on Friday, September 19, Oparanya dismissed the claims, calling them political attacks from his opponents.

He insisted that during his time as Kakamega Governor, he focused on development projects that improved the lives of residents.

The CS further challenged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and other investigators to provide proof of the allegations, stating he was ready to face them in court.

“You know who took those files to EACC. Even if someone says I was dishonest, let them come and see the work I did here,” Oparanya said. “If there is real evidence against me, let them proceed. I am not afraid.”

His statement came just days after the High Court in Nairobi overturned the decision by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to drop a corruption case worth Ksh57 million against him.

Justice Benjamin Musyoki, who made the ruling on Tuesday, September 16, said the DPP acted outside the law by ending the case without involving the EACC. The judge explained that the move was not transparent, went against public interest, and violated the Constitution.

After the ruling, the National Integrity Alliance — a coalition of civic groups — demanded Oparanya’s immediate arrest. The lobby group described the judgment as a key step in fighting impunity and called on the DPP to file new charges in line with EACC investigations.

They also urged the ODPP to stop interfering with the EACC’s role, stressing that the commission has clear constitutional authority under Article 79 and Chapter Six of the Constitution.
