Maraga Reveals What is Going to Happen After His Security Detail Was Withdrawn

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has announced that he is going to form a strong team to stop the government from going against the Constitution. He shared this on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

In his statement, Maraga said that some top leaders in government, including Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, are now using their positions to abuse power and break the law.

“It is very wrong for government leaders to think they are above the law. Kenya is a country ruled by the Constitution, not by individuals,” he stated.

Maraga also added that Kenyans have a right to protest when they feel that the government is not listening to them. He said that CS Murkomen is trying to stop these peaceful protests, which is not acceptable.

“The Constitution clearly gives people the right to assemble and protest peacefully. Trying to block that is a clear violation,” Maraga said.

His strong message came just a few hours after CS Murkomen ordered the removal of Maraga’s security detail. This happened shortly after Maraga was seen supporting the June 25 protests and he strongly condemned the move.

"Withdrawing my security just because I spoke against injustice shows how far this government is willing to go to silence us," he said.

Maraga finished by saying that the team he is forming will make sure the Constitution is respected at all times. He promised that they will protect the rights of Kenyans and stand firm against any kind of abuse.

“We are not afraid. We will speak up and take action whenever the law is broken,” he declared.
