Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a stern warning to Jubilee Party leaders, cautioning them against insulting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during a grassroots meeting in Murang’a on Friday afternoon, the former Head of State expressed disappointment over what he termed as divisive and disrespectful politics within the party.
Uhuru urged party officials and members to maintain decorum when expressing their opinions, saying the culture of online insults and personal attacks had no place in Jubilee’s leadership.
“At times, I’m saddened to see people on social media pretending to defend the party by insulting Rigathi Gachagua and others. I don’t want that nonsense in my party,” Uhuru stated.
“Before I hand over this party, if they continue with such behaviour, I will call them out and send them packing. I don’t want to hear it again.”
Uhuru appeared particularly critical of Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, who has in the past publicly clashed with Gachagua. He warned Kioni and other senior officials to stop using social media to attack leaders, urging them to focus on promoting the party’s agenda and values instead.
“Our mission should be to build the party and attract new members, not to waste time trading insults. Let’s sell our vision, not division,” Uhuru emphasized.
During the same meeting, the former President also endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, describing him as a capable leader with a strong track record from his time in government.
Uhuru dismissed claims that his support for Matiang’i was personal, saying his endorsement was based on competence and service delivery.
His remarks come barely a month after Jeremiah Kioni accused Gachagua of allegedly intimidating Matiang’i, who is reported to be preparing for a presidential bid under the Jubilee banner.
Kioni had also claimed that Gachagua was secretly working with President William Ruto’s administration ahead of the 2027 General Election, branding him a “mole” within the opposition.
