A Kenyan woman living in Australia is facing serious punishment after admitting that she threw her newborn baby out of a window.

The woman, identified as Irine Jerotich, is 26 years old and was living in Dandenong North, Melbourne.

According to court reports, the incident happened very early in the morning on August 30, 2024, around 2:40 a.m.

Investigators say Jerotich placed her newborn child inside a plastic bag before dropping the baby from a bathroom window onto the concrete ground outside.

The baby was later found alive but with serious injuries. Police and emergency workers rushed to the scene after being called and took the infant to hospital.

Doctors managed to save the baby’s life, but the child is still recovering from the trauma and injuries suffered.

Jerotich was later arrested and charged in court. At first, she faced two charges, including reckless conduct endangering life and recklessly causing injury.

However, when she appeared before the County Court of Victoria, she pleaded guilty to one of the charges—reckless conduct endangering life. The second charge was dropped by the prosecution.

Currently, Jerotich is out on bail but must follow strict conditions. She has to remain within the state of Victoria and stay at her home address while awaiting the next step in her case.

The court has also banned her from engaging in activities that may put the child at further risk as she awaits sentencing. A pre-sentence hearing is set for February, when a judge will decide what punishment she should face.

The case has drawn a lot of attention because of its disturbing nature. Many people are struggling to understand what could have led a young mother to harm her own child in such a way.
